edinburgh’s monthly astrological drag show

In April 2024, I began producing a new monthly drag show in Edinburgh themed around astrology, Tarot and witchcraft. The name ‘Asteria’ was inspired by a lesser-known Titan goddess from the Greek pantheon associated with falling stars, astrology and magic. Each month, the show would celebrate each individual zodiac sign one by one by casting performers exclusively born under that sign, and by performing numbers inspired by each sign’s many associations (planets, traits, colours etc). With themed cocktails and Tarot readings to boot, it was probably the biggest indication in my work of my dedication to a theme.

When it came to the graphics for the show, I knew I wanted black and gold as the main colour palette to be inspired by the night sky filled with stars. I designed each letter used in the logo in a gilded, ornate style, inspired by runes and typical witchy iconography. I also designed and made the dress I wore in the promotional imagery shown below. In creating the monthly social media posts, I wanted each sign to be differentiated by colour, including the background swirls and patterns which all smoothly transitioned together on an Instagram grid. All in all, I was pretty happy with the aesthetics of this project, and feel I was able to capture the intent and point of view of the show clearly within the imagery and design choices that were made.
