drag at eve.
bringing drag to the mainstream
Part of my creative direction work in Edinburgh was the organisation of all drag events at the Virgin Hotel, mainly performing in their event space, Eve. Initially brought in to produce a Taylor Swift drag brunch, I quickly became the de facto producer for this venue due to the success of the event. I organised an entire day’s worth of programming for Edinburgh Pride in 2024, and then subsequently produced quarterly shows throughout the year to tie in with special occasions and holidays such as Halloween and Christmas. It was a big project to undertake, and was a great opportunity to work with a big brand and collaborate with them on brand identities and aesthetics in the world of design.
My marketing strategy working with Eve was two-fold: firstly, I had to make certain visuals that would line up with Virgin’s own marketing department’s standards, including using specific colours, fonts and formats to fit in with their regularly scheduled social media posts and newsletters. Secondly, I had to make material that would stand out to the kinds of people I knew would be interested in coming, A.K.A. local queer people who frequently attended drag shows elsewhere. As a result, I would often make multiple different versions of posters and social media posts in order to attract different audiences. The ones highlighted here are a combination of these two.
